"Fate leads the willing and drags along the reluctant." -SE NECA-
Whether we like it or not, fate plays a major role in our lives. We may plan and plot our future but sometimes our plans are sabatoged by fate.
I have always been one to plan for the future but today I am living in./under a completely different plan than I intended to live. What I have learned is to "go with the flow" in order to eliminate emotional distress when things don't go as I intended.
I have finally learned to call on God and say: "Give me clear direction as to what I should do next." The way it works is that you make a plan, check in with him, and wait until he impresses (strongly) as to whether you should say "yes" or "not" to the plan.
I had a pastor who once said: "If you make a plan and everything goes click, click, click, then it is probably a good plan sanctioned from God but if you find yourself pushing against the odds to make it happen, then it probably is not a good plan."
