The definition of happiness is different for everyone. Some people define happiness as:
- Being successful in chosen profession
- Being rich
- Owning a large home, car, boat, and all the trappings
- And more tangible material possessions
S
ome people do not measure happiness by material possessions and success. Some people define happiness by the following:
- Being truly loved unconditionally by someone
- Having a good relationship with spouse, significant other person, and family members
- Having good friends
- Having a best friend
- Owning a loving pet(s)
- And more intangible but positive possessions
Having been both "rich" and "poor" in my lifetime, I can certainly tell you that there is absolutely nothing wrong with working toward the achievements listed in the first set. The problem is...the first set can be a "temporary" situation and can disolve almost overnight in the event of unforseen tragic circumstances. The second set is primarily a "permanent" situation. The thing is...I have personally found that the people involved in the second set sticks with you through "thick and thin" while some/many of the people associated with the first set will abandon you in a "heart beat" when you are no longer on top of the world.
Think about it...what makes you truly happy? Don't waste a lifetime chasing dreams that leave you "empty" and wanting more out of life.
