September 19, 2009 - POEM TO LIVE BY

Don't Quit

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low, and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must but don’t you quit.

Life is queer with it twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out,
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow,
You may succeed with another blow.

Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tin of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit,
It’s when things seem worse, that you must not quit.

Some time ago, someone on the internet said the poem was by Theodore Roosevelt. I have done another search tonight and someone states that it was penned by Jill Wolf. If anyone knows for sure who wrote this poem, please email me. It is a very famous poem and a lot of people would be interested in knowing who is the author of this poem. Audrey

  1. I was told that the poem "Don't Quit" was authored by Bear Bryant, Univ. of AL football coach but it may be that he just read it to players before the game(s).

I agree with it's message. Hope all is well with you.
