This just a little armchair psychology! In my lifetime, I have heard about more family disputes on people insisting/refusing to the "taking out of the trash syndrome" than anything else.
If a person, man, woman or child, cannot do a simple act of "taking out the trash" without it becoming an "act of war," then it is a symptom of something deeper that has absolutely nothing to do with trash.
The person "who insists" on the trash being taken out and the person "who refuses" on taking out the trash, to the point of causing serious arguments/problems, are simply "control freaks." Control freaks cause more problems for themselves and others than possibly any other personality defect that a person can have.
They say that financal problems are the leading cause of divorce. While that might be right, I say that people who insist on "being right" about everything from trivial to important issues cause a lot of the divorces, which are at a record high in history.
Whether at home, workplace or at church, a sign of a "healthy mind" is the ability to be flexible and compromise about issues that are in dispute. More marriages and churches "split" due to people who "insist on being right."
As you have figured out by now, this is really not about "taking out the trash," it is about being inflexible and rigid, being a person who insists on having their way, to the point of creating serious problems for themselves and others.
I have some education/experience in mental health due to my nursing degree and it is a generally accepted fact in psychology that a person who is "extremely rigid" in their way of thinking has the most mental health problems.
